Flora Poste has been expensively educated to do everything but earn her own living. When she is orphaned at twenty, she decides her only option is to go and live with her relatives the Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm.

What relatives, though: Judith, alone in her grief; raving old Ada Doom, who once saw something nasty in the woodshed; Amos, called by God; Seth, smouldering with sex; and Elfine, who just needs a little polish. Flora feels it incumbent upon her to bring order into the chaos. And she turns out to be remarkably good at it.

The manager (Paul Gorsuch) and maid (Sue Mogford) wait for their new guests..........

.....Richard Wiley MP (Chris Walker) and Jane Worthington (Debbie Green)............who have more than parliamentary affairs on their minds.

Oh dear! Jane seems to have lost something. Perhaps George (Dave Moore) can help.

Richard seeks more help - this time from from a waiter (Pete Hutton) who is very obliging (for a fee). Is that a body in the chair?

The body (Darren Richards) has come back to life just in time to meet Jane's husband, Ronnie (Geo Brown) who also seems to have lost something. Maybe George's Al Jolson impersination will pacify them.

Seems not! Ronnie and Richard are joined by Richard's wife, Pamela (Cheralyn Bush). They all seem to be singularly unimpressed.

Maybe George can find consolation in the arms of Nurse Gladys (Julie Warren).
