We have a lively junior membership for 7-16 year olds, plus our Cheers group for young people with disabilities, aged 14-21.
The children that join the Curtain Raisers are not auditioned - a waiting list is kept and they join on a "first come - first served" basis. All we ask is that the children are enthusiastic and attend regularly.
Whilst a few have gone on to study drama at college and two are now professional theatre technicians, the majority of members take up drama for fun. It helps them form some great friendships, teaches them to work together and boosts their self-esteem.
If you would like to join the waiting list please complete the form below (copy the section between the dotted lines to a word processor application such as Word (Paste Special - Formatted Text (RTF)) - if the table section has no border, you can use the Word border utility to add one) and sent it to the Club at the Warehouse, 7 Hope Street, Weymouth, Dorset. curtainraisers is a part of Weymouth Drama Club for 7-16 year olds. The young people are taken on a "first come - first served" basis. Unfortunately this does mean that they are usually on the waiting list for some time.
Once a part of the group, the young people take part in workshops about the theatre, various aspects of drama and technical topics such as lighting and sound.
Some of the group also appeared in the Club’s pantomime, both in lead roles and in the chorus. There have also been opportunities for some group members to help front of house and also backstage, with stage management, lighting and sound on productions by the adult members of the Club.

The Curtain Raisers latest production performed at Weymouth Pavilion on July 13th 2011 was The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew by Robert Bolt.
Full of medieval delight, The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew, can only be described as a mix between Spamalot and Shrek.
With ye olde English feel and knights of the round table style we join our heroes as they conclude their weary task of ridding their land of dragons and decide it's time to take a 'breather' . . . all except one, that is . . .
A fantasy tale about a heroic knight Sir Oblong fitz Oblong, played by Amber Hobson, who is ready to slay any dragon that may cause harm to the people. Unable to rest after all the dragons in his land are slain he is sent off on a journey to Bolligrew Islands in order to continue his good work
Along the way he makes a few friends, and enemies, finding himself in a bit of trouble with Baron Bolligrew, played by Mimi Roe-White, and his partner in crime Squire Blackheart, played by Rosie Masson. Bolligrew is happy with the way his island is being run and in order to rid it of Oblong he seeks the assistance of the evil wizard, Dr Moloch, played by Rowan Hedley.

One boy, one runaway slave, one mighty river.
On 16th July 2010, the Curtain Raisers performed "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" at The Pavilion Theatre.
Over sixty young people will brought to life Matthew Francis's superb adaptation of Mark Twain's classic novel about Huckleberry Finn's adventurous journey along the Mississippi. Travelling with the slave, Jim, and their encounters with villains, rascals and madmen are were at times hilarious and sometimes scary.
Young people helped with the technical aspects of the show, such as set, stage management and costumes under the leadership of a great team of adult volunteers headed up by Deborah Walton.

On the 10th July 2009 Weymouth Drama Club Curtain Raisers mounted their biggest production to date, where all 90 members took to the stage in an outstanding performance of "I never saw another butterfly". A very poignant piece of theatre written about the Holocaust, it is a true story about the life of a girl, Raja, who survived Terezin. The show featured a series of flashbacks where Raja retold each segment of her life in Terezin, starting with her first memory of arriving
Here are some of the photos taken during the butterfly making workshop:
