Every month the Drama Club Newsletter appears here first!
Please note that, in view of the PERSONAL INFORMATION notice given in the May 2008 newsletter, I have deleted all personal telephone numbers from the website. If you require any information, please contact the club on 01305 750050 (answerphone service) and we will get back to you.
Webmaster

Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday! We’re looking forward to the new season already and have got lots of plans for the future….Variety of friend and club nights, short plays, long plays, monologues, pantomimes, murder mysteries, plays with meals, fun on wheels, Shakespeare…..and the list goes on! Remember this is your club – GET INVOLVED!
New Committee
At the end of this newsletter you will see a complete list of who is on your committee for the coming year. At the AGM we were unable to fill the posts of Business Manager and Vice Chairman. Jan Dench & Margaret Shaw have very kindly offered to ‘job-share’ the role of Business Manager for the coming year, and Gina Huntley & Antoinette Richards will ‘job-share’ Vice Chairman.
Future productions
With your newsletter you should also have received a year planner indicating when we are hoping to put on productions this year – as well as slotting in many other things! Get you thinking caps on with any ideas for plays & Friends nights and chat to a member of the committee if you’d like to get involved. (Please note that for technical reasons the planner cannot be included in this format on the web site).
More details of productions will be in the next newsletter.
Event 24 – 17th/18th September
It’s back!! From a blank sheet of paper to a production in 24 hours! A great opportunity to get involved – we need everything from scriptwriters to scenery creators to make up artists…and everything in-between – including actors! Please contact Jacqui or Julie Knight for more details.
Club Evenings
Thank you to everyone who entered into the spirit of the ‘club night tombola’ at the AGM – as you will see from the year planner you’re all on there already! Everyone has been listed under the date they were originally given, if you need to change your evening then please let Emma know. She will be in touch with you nearer the date to find out what your plans are and if you need any help. Looking forward to some great nights!
Curtain Raisers
Congratulations to Curtain Raisers for a fantastic show and thanks to everyone who supported them.
Huck Finn Thankyou
I would like to say “thankyou” to all those who gave their support, time, help and expertise to me during the planning, rehearsal process and nights at the Pavilion, to make ‘Huck Finn’ work so well. You all certainly made my life easier! If I haven’t thanked you personally, please accept these words from me to you all – thankyou!
In the words of Mark Twain himself “Really great people make you feel that you, too can become great”
Deborah
Opening night
The new season will begin again on Tuesday 7th September, 7.45pm at the Warehouse. This is a great social night to get together with everyone and hear about the great plans we have for the next year! Also with your newsletter you should have received a recruitment poster. Please display it at your place of work/local shop/house window/back of car….or anywhere else you can think of! We were given a target at AGM to increase membership by 15% - wouldn’t it be great if this happened at opening night! Don’t forget to bring a friend with you… J
Other matters
We have just received a substantial cheque that was left to the club by Peter Riddle. Peter was a life member and previous president of the club who will be sadly missed.
The collection held at the funeral of Kay raised £270 towards the club. Kay was an unforgettable member of the club and these monies will be spent in an appropriate way.
Your help with archives
Melanie, our club archivist, needs your help! She is trying to collate videos of our productions and put them onto DVD as a record of our history. If you have any videos that she could have/borrow please get in touch.
Fundraising
Lots happening this year….. murder/mystery evening, bike ride, sponsored walk, Event 24….to name a few! Have you got any ideas for a great fundraiser? Ideas are always welcome!
Premises
Please could everyone take care when putting up/taking down the tables. We have a couple with broken legs due to incorrect handling – thank you.
Get involved

Future productions/ Submissions
Submissions and general bright ideas are needed for 6th Nov to celebrate 50 years of the Pavilion.
Our own Richard Grafton is helping to co ordinate this bonanza of theatrical talent with a series of 15x10 minute slots. There will be 3 slots for each decade the Pavilion has been open.
So far proposals have been for Curtain Raisers to fill one slot, and the rest of us to put on a “play within a play” so get your thinking caps on!!
Plus there is an exhibition on July 15th in The Ocean Room to celebrate 50 years of the Pavilion.
ALSO…. We are putting on a production at the Nothe in June 2011 and ask for any submissions to be made by July 17 with a decision by September.
Curtain Raisers
Huckleberry Finn rehearsals are going really well so sell sell sell and support this amazing production on Fri 16th July at 7.30pm. Phone the Pavilion Box Office on 783225.
Jacqui is still looking for some help with Make Up and Chaperones so if you are free give her a bell on 782162.
Some sad news.
Cherry says a heartfelt Thankyou for all the correspondence, cards, flowers and kind thoughts following the sad loss of Kay.
Also Peter Riddle sadly passed away in April. Peter was a Life Member and President of the Club. Our sympathies are with his family.
